Juan-les-Pins also called Juan, is a district and seaside resort of Antibes, in the Alpes-Maritimes in France. It is located south of the city, west of Cap d'Antibes, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. The inhabitants of Juan-les-Pins (75,568 inhabitants in total in the town of Antibes-Juan-les-Pins) are the Juanais.
Appreciated by John Dos Passos, Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald, the seaside resort of Juan-les-Pins was created in 1882 and developed in the 1920s under the impetus of the wealthy American Frank Jay Gould and Edouard Baudoin. In 1925, Frank Jay Gould built a ten-storey hotel (Le Provençal) with 290 rooms to house the clients of his casino, inaugurated on June 25, 1927. Édouard Baudoin, meanwhile, general councilor of the Alpes-Maritimes and the one of the promoters of Deauville, built the casino in Juan-les-Pins; it also gives its name to a boulevard. The Provençal is today the property of John David Caudwell, a British businessman.
Also known worldwide for its Antibes Jazz Festival Juan-les-Pins brings together artists or jazz orchestras from around the world. The stage, named “Pinède Gould”, built in the open air, hosts for ten days the concerts of Jazz à Juan and before or after the festival, other shows (reggae festival, electro music, variety, humor ...).
